European Union lifts restrictions on food imports from Japan

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced in a press conference Thursday that restrictions on food imports from Japan that were imposed following the Fukushima nuclear disaster will be lifted. The 2011 earthquake and tsunami that damaged the Fukushima nuclear plant resulted in the European Union restricting farm and fish imports from ten Japanese prefectures and mandatory pre-export radioactivity testing on foods.
