For our first episode of Sublemonal Messaging, we are kicking off a series of movies - all produced by Netflix - and doing a film critique of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Murder Mystery, written and directed by Rian Johnson and released in 2022.

Glass Onion is an American murder mystery film and a sequel to the 2019 film Knives Out, with lead actor Daniel Craig playing the world's greatest detective, Benoit Blanc, and a loaded cast, including Edward Norton, Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista, Janelle Monáe, and many more.

Today, we'll be looking at how Netflix's film uses subtle - as well as not-so-subtle - messages to comment on various members of society, and other topics such as gender roles, race, and political affiliation.
