Tom Hanks is an American actor and filmmaker who is widely regarded as one of the greatest actors of his generation. He was born on July 9, 1956, in Concord, California. Hanks has had a prolific career spanning several decades, and he has been recognized with numerous awards, including two Academy Awards for Best Actor.
Hanks' breakthrough role came in the 1988 film "Big," where he portrayed a young boy trapped in an adult's body. He further solidified his reputation as a versatile actor with critically acclaimed performances in movies such as "Philadelphia" (1993), where he played a gay lawyer with AIDS, and "Forrest Gump" (1994), in which he portrayed the titular character, a simple-minded but kind-hearted man who witnesses and influences several major historical events.
Throughout his career, Hanks has demonstrated his ability to tackle a wide range of roles across different genres. He has appeared in dramas like "Apollo 13" (1995) and "Saving Private Ryan" (1998), comedies like "Sleepless in Seattle" (1993) and "The Terminal" (2004), and even ventured into animation as the voice of Woody in the "Toy Story" franchise.
