On July 8, 2023, and while working an off-duty extra job, an Atlanta police officer observed a male armed with a firearm in his hand walking in the area of Luckie St. The officer approached the suspect to investigate, however the male fled the scene on foot. The officer requested additional officers to canvass the area and soon spotted the suspect running through an apartment complex.

The officer engaged in a foot pursuit when the suspect jumped over a fence while losing a shoe. Additional units responded to the area on foot and in patrol vehicles where an officer noticed a suspicious vehicle in the roadway. The occupants seated in the vehicle immediately ducked down in an attempt to not be seen. The officer went to investigate further when the suspect fled from the vehicle on foot.

While jumping over the fence, the suspect had a negligent discharge of a firearm he was carrying. That firearm got stuck on the fence and the suspect continued to run from the scene. The female driver of the vehicle was later detained for further investigation. While canvassing the area, officers saw the suspect running to the rear of an apartment complex, where he was soon taken into custody without incident.

The male was later identified as 18-year-old Johnnie Scott and the female driver as 19-year-old Sydnee Anderson. Officers recovered a bookbag off the male that contained illegal narcotics, multiple cell phones, a scale, and empty baggies. Officers returned to the vehicle the suspect ran from and immediately smelled a strong odor of suspected marijuana. Inside the vehicle, officers were able to recover two bookbags, one duffle bag that contained illegal narcotics and approximately $6,000 in cash.

Mr. Scott was later charged with multiple narcotic offenses, discharge of a firearm, reckless conduct, and obstruction of law enforcement officers. Ms. Anderson was charged with multiple drug offenses, and obstruction of law enforcement officers. Both were transported to Fulton County jail and taken into their custody without incident.
