AFFIRMING THE HEART OF THE FEMALE ATHLETE - BETHANY HAMILTON

Bethany Hamilton's story was so inspirational because she demonstrated incredible courage and determination in the face of an unimaginable tragedy. Despite losing her arm in a shark attack at the age of thirteen, she refused to give up on her dreams and returned to competitive surfing only three weeks after the incident. Her resilience and faith-filled attitude serve as an example for many people around the world who have faced similar difficulties.

The public was also inspired by Bethany’s selfless dedication to helping others overcome their own life obstacles. In 2007, she co-founded Friends of Bethany, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing emotional support and physical assistance for amputees, traumatic injuries, and other challenges such as bullying.
