LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at Caesars Palace hotel on Tuesday morning. According to police, when they attempted to make contact with the individuals in the room, a male occupant refused to open the door and claimed to be armed.
In response, SWAT and Crisis Negotiators have been dispatched to the scene to handle the situation. The investigation is ongoing.
A report has revealed the extent of the damage caused by a hostage suspect's drug-fueled rampage at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, estimating it to be over $50,000. According to the arrest report released by the Las Vegas Metropolitan police, Matthew Mannix, a fugitive from Colorado, held a woman against her will in a hotel room for nearly six hours while under the influence of drugs.
During the ordeal, Mannix taunted the police by threatening them and claiming to possess a magazine full of rounds. He broke a window and threw various objects, including chairs, from the 21st floor to the pool deck below, causing chaos and forcing guests to flee the pool area.
The woman in the room, whose identity was redacted, was also under the influence of drugs. She revealed to the detectives that she and Mannix had been living a transient lifestyle on the Las Vegas Strip and had engaged in a drug binge for several days. She believed Mannix to be an actor from MTV and stated that they had an on-and-off sexual relationship.
According to the police documents, the woman feared Mannix, who had threatened her with a knife. She was too afraid to leave the room, as she believed he might harm her or throw her out of the broken window.
Following the incident, a detective who served a search warrant on the hotel room described the property damage as one of the most severe he had encountered in his 18-year career.
Matthew Mannix, a resident of Golden, Colorado, faces multiple charges in Clark County, including kidnapping, coercion with force or threat of force with a deadly weapon, destruction or injury of property, resisting a public officer with a deadly weapon (non-firearm), and disregarding the safety of people and property.
He is scheduled to appear in Las Vegas Justice Court later today. The total damage amount has yet to be determined.
