What The Flash Movie Forgot To Do

Today, we're diving into the highly publicized movie, "The Flash," starring Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash, Michael Keaton as Batman, and Sasha Calle as Supergirl. Now, this movie is loosely based on the iconic Flashpoint comic, it’s out and it’s not exactly lighting the theater on fire as we’ve been led to believe it would.

I LOVE the Flash. I love the character, the comics, and I love the Flashpoint story that this is all based on. This movie tries to adapt that storyline into a satisfying film but it has some key differences that I think are essential to the story. Let's get into it!

Some of you may have seen my video a few years ago where I broke down, at the time, what I thought the Flash movie would be about. I was correct on some things and wrong on others but what I couldn't predict is that the movie would be missing so many of the key things about The Flashpoint storyline that absolutely make the story a classic. Let’s start from the beginning.

Synopsis:
After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn's full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. However, when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders. He must soon redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

Spider-Man is defined by tragedy, or is he? With Great Power Comes Great
Responsibility. It’s a term and creed that defines Spider-Man as a hero and defines his motivations. Peter Parker neglected to help when he had the power to do so and the impact was that it cost him the life of his Uncle Ben. Across The Spider-Verse takes this and adapts it into the concept of a ‘canon event’. We learn there are events that we’re told must happen in the life of Spider-Man or risk the universe from collapsing on itself.
Miles is told his very existence as a superhero is a canonical mistake and his exclusion from others is for the greater good. In other words: He Does Not Belong.
