The Mistress follows newlyweds Maddie and Parker as they move into their dream home. But their dream soon becomes a nightmare when they discover old letters from a lovelorn woman who lived there over 100 years ago. Parker experiences ghostly disturbances while Maddie suspects he’s hiding something dark from his past.

Written and directed by Greg Pritikin (Dummy, The Last Laugh) and produced by Rob Paris, The Mistress stars John Magaro (Past Lives, The Big Short, First Cow), Chasten Harmon (Paterson), Kat Cunning (Marry Me), Aylya Marzolf (Only for One Night), Alexandra Grey (Empire), and James Carpinello (Midway, The Punisher).

The Mistress will tell an intimate tale of horror and ghostly goings-on, with the movie filmed at Pritikin's own house. The setting carries with it a lot of horror pedigree, and is located just down the street from the Thriller house in LA's famous Angelino Heights neighborhood, where many well-known movies and shows set in creepy Victorian era houses have been filmed.
The Mistress has already been the recipient of several awards, winning at the Los Angeles International Film Festival, the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, and being awarded Best Horror at the Sevilla Indie Film Festival, as well as being part of the Official Selection at Los Angeles Horror Film Festival, Tucson Film and Music Festival, Unrestricted View Horror Film Festival, and the Polish International Film Festival.

Magaro himself is having a great year, with this film following up his starring role in the excellent movie LaRoy. The Mistress is scheduled to open in theaters and on VOD on July 28 via Blue Fox Entertainment.
This year has had a lot to offer horror movie fans, and there is still plenty more to come. The next few months will see the release of such horror outings as the Bird Box spinoff, Bird Box Barcelona, which follows a man and his daughter as they attempt to survive in a world taken over by mysterious entities that you cannot look at. Bird Box Barcelona is due to land on Netflix from July 14, 2023.

Audiences will also be able to either hide behind their hands or delight at the terror in the likes of The Nun 2, The Last Voyage of the Demeter, Poor Things, Five Nights at Freddy’s, and much more.

Next up though is the horror sequel Insidious: The Red Door, which picks up ten years after the ending events of the second outing, and finds Josh Lambert heading east to drop his son Dalton off at an idyllic, ivy-league university. However, Dalton’s college dream becomes a nightmare when the repressed demons of his past suddenly return to haunt them both.

Insidious: The Red Door is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 7, 2023, by Sony Pictures Releasing.
