3D laser mapping 'weighs' trees

A laser scanning technique is being developed by scientists to 3D map the structure of trees in order to determine the biomass and carbon stocks in forests more accurately than by other methods. The authors of the study hope their research will provide better understanding of the role of forests in reducing man-made CO2 emissions and give an effective framework for climate policymakers.
