Japan launches Hayabusa 2 asteroid probe

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency successfully launched the Hayabusa 2 space probe on December 3rd, 2014, setting off a 6-year round trip to land on an asteroid, where it will fire a high-speed explosive bullet into the asteroid's crust and collect samples which scientists hope will help reveal the origins of life.
