This new Essential Oil Diffuser from Rooted is priced at just £19.99, and although it has a rather small 200ml tank, it does feature remote control operation and the latest thing with aromatherapy diffusers - flame effect.

In the box was the diffuser itself, a remote control, a USB charging cable and a useful and well-written User Guide. I include a scan of the User Guide in my unboxing video. The diffuser is quite lightweight and made entirely from plastic but it feels well made and looks quite stylish. The remote control has an unusual design and is rather small and since there are no manual controls on the device it is important not to lose it.

The main selling point for this device has to be the flame effect.
This works by using a small fan to blow the steam vapour through a row of coloured LEDs. Using the remote you can select Orange, Red, Green, and Blue flame effects or you can let the colours scroll automatically. There is also a timer with one, three, and six-hour options as well as always on. When set to always on it will work for just over six hours before turning off automatically. Should it run dry before then the misting process will automatically switch off to prevent overheating.

To operate, just take the top cover off, fill with water to the indicated level, fill at the indicated point and be careful not to get water on the LEDs, add a few drops of essential oil, replace the lid and select use the remote to control and configure the device. Be careful when carrying the diffuser as the cover does not click into place and unless you support it carefully you may find yourself holding just the cover with the rest on the floor in front of you.

The remote control is an unusual shape and a step up from the generic credit card types usually found. It has just three buttons: On/Off, Lighting Modes, and Timer Modes. Press the Lighting and Timer buttons to scroll through the modes available.

The diffuser is nicely designed and should sit well in a home, office or clinical environment, the lighting is subtle and unobtrusive and the misting process is pleasant and can lift or give atmosphere to the room. The flame effect is much more noticeable at night and can be dramatic at times, although it does tend to look better on camera than in real life. Despite the smaller than normal 200ml tank capacity, it is still longer burning than many of the rival units I have tried. Be aware that due to the nature of the misting process, some water may be precipitated around the device so do not locate it close to sensitive objects.

The unit does not come with a USB power adapter, although a USB-C to USB-A cable is included. It is important to select a USB power adapter that outputs at least 2A in power (this will be written somewhere on the adapter). Using a less powerful one may allow the LEDs to light up but the diffusing process and fan will not work. This is important and so do not ignore it.

The diffuser features audio beeps to confirm button presses and for error alerts. Three beeps for no water, timer ending is one long beep, misting or fan failure give one long beep and the LEDs flash, the device powers down automatically after an error alert.

Of the many diffusers, I have experimented with this is perhaps one of the best as it is simple to use, looks good with the striking flame effect and has the added bonus of a a remote control. It is a little less expensive than some which can only be for the good. At the current Amazon price of £18.99, it is a very decent buy indeed.
