The Shimano XT CS-M771 Bicycle Cassette is incredibly versatile and perfect for converting from a 3x10 to a 1x10 setup. I was able to remove one of the center cogs to add a 42T cog on the end, allowing me to tackle even the steepest hills with ease.
The 36T cog provides excellent efficiency for climbing, making it my go-to option most of the time. The 42T is there as a backup for those really tough ascents.
With a 34T crankset in the front, I was initially unsure if I would still be able to handle all mountain rides.
However, after riding distances between 6-20 miles and gaining elevations from 1,000-4,000 feet, I can confidently say that this cassette performs exceptionally well in a variety of terrains.
One uphill segment I recently tackled had an average grade of 14% over a distance of 0.5 miles, with gradient ranges from 5% to 30%. The Shimano XT CS-M771 Bicycle Cassette allowed me to conquer this challenge effortlessly.
The XT model is perfect for my setup because it offers the option to remove one of the middle cogs to accommodate a higher cog. This is not possible with the SLX and lower models, so I highly recommend choosing the XT if youre aiming for this specific setup.
