June was Men’s Mental Health Month, but you may not have heard given that the month has been hijacked by one group of people, who, ironically, claim to care about this exact issue.

In the US, being white and certainly being male are two huge risk factors for attempting to cease being. But we never want to talk about that. Instead we disparage men—specifically white men—and masculinity, and pretend like that’s the right thing to do.

I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again: human beings are individuals—not merely members of large identify groups, either “oppressed” or “oppressors.”

It doesn’t matter that “men have been in charge” or “we’ve already heard from white men.” Men—including white men—are individuals—not monoliths. It doesn’t matter to you that someone who “looked like you” got a chance, got a say, got to speak—if you yourself never got a chance. None of us are guaranteed the same opportunities in life—but none of us should be shut down because of our gender or skin color.

The world needs more men—not less. The world needs more masculinity—not less. And the world needs you. Seeking the help you need, is one of the strongest things a person can do, and one of the greatest acts of service to self, family, and future family.
