Rep. Jamie Raskin says he’s not running for open Senate seat in Maryland

Maryland Representative Jamie Raskin, known for his prominent role in the impeachment proceedings against former President Donald Trump and the investigation into the January 6, 2021, riot, announced on Friday that he will not be running for the U.S. Senate seat that will become available due to the retirement of Senator Ben Cardin.

Raskin, currently serving as the top Democrat on the House Oversight and Reform Committee and in his fourth term, had been considering a run for the Senate seat.

However, in a statement, he expressed his decision to seek re-election in the House instead, NBC News has reported.
