The Great Dictator

It was released on October 15, 1940 and satirizes Nazism, fascism and its greatest propagators, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini. It was also Chaplin's first film spoken. At the time of its launch, the United States had not yet entered World War II.

The film received five Oscar nominations in 1941 in the categories of best film, best actor for Charlie Chaplin, best original screenplay, best soundtrack and best supporting actor for Jack Oakie.
