Food Storage: Are Freeze-Dried or Home Bottled Cherries Better?

Shelf stable pie cherries are a fantastic addition to any prepper's pantry. Cherries can be the miracle ingredient that transforms basic staples like flour, rolled oats, and honey into a mouthwatering dessert.

In this video, we freeze dry frozen pie cherries and bottle the rest of them so that we can compare the two.

We recently discovered the perfect Mylar bags for packaging freeze-dried foods. You can get the gusseted Mylar bags with a ziplock seal on Amazon at https://amzn.to/3olnezS. These are high-quality 7 mil bags.

As promised, here is the recipe for Simple Cherry Crisp.

2 cans cherry pie filling (make your own with cherries, sweetener and cornstarch)
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup brown sugar (we used honey)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
5 Tablespoons melted butter (we used olive oil)

Pour pie filling in a 9"x9" baking dish. Blend remaining ingredients together to create a crumble topping to cover the pie filling.
