6 Steps to Help You Prepare for Real-Life Challenges

Life has a way of throwing unexpected challenges onto our path. Sickness, loss of employment, divorce, family challenges, and death are all part of life. We might be able to avoid living through an earthquake but very few of us make it through life without being affected by a serious illness.

In this video, we are going to share our plan for preparing for life’s everyday challenges. We are going to get a bit personal because I think that is one of the best ways to illustrate how being prepared has made facing these challenges much easier than it may have been without the advanced preparations.

Build a strong network of community relationships
1. Choose a network of friends and neighbors and work to strengthen those relationships.
2. Communities may include family members, neighborhoods, work friends, church members, longtime friends, or even online relationships.
3. Nourish these relationships by investing both time and resources to strengthen them.

Proactively maintain health and strength
1. Preventative health and dental care – Don’t put treatment off.
2. Eat right and avoid addictive substances that may drain financial resources and affect your health and well-being.
3. Exercise regularly.
4. Get sunshine every day.
5. Keep a backup supply of critical medications that are right for your family.

Mental, emotional, and spiritual health
1. Balance between work and play.
2. Make time to be well.
3. Do the best you can and then let it go. Applies to prepping. When is enough, enough? Don’t lose sleep over it.
4. Build a trusting relationship with God. Do your best and turn what you can’t control over to Him. Live your life in accordance with what you know to be true. If there are things in your life that you need to fix, then do what you need to do to make it right.

Financial stability
1. Live within your budget – avoid debt and pay off as quickly as possible.
2. Increase your skills and marketability.
3. Diligently save money for future needs.
4. Give back through tithing or donating to those in need.

Build Skills and Education
1. Work hard take advantage of every good opportunity that you have to learn new skills. That includes opportunities in your employment and developing hobbies such as baking, gardening, or woodworking.
2. Whether it is watching videos on YouTube, reading books, or attending formal schooling. Educate yourself. Knowledge can make all the difference.

Build your family storehouse – security that basic needs are met.
1. Build your family food stores.
a. 3-month supply of everyday foods – working pantry.
b. Longer-term emergency food supply packaged to last for 25 years or more.
c. Clean drinking water.
d. Basic non-food necessities like toilet paper, toothpaste, cleaning supplies, garbage bags, paper plates, etc.
2. Grow whatever you can on your own property – even if it is a pot with tomatoes or herbs. Store the needed tools, seeds, and supplies for next year’s crops.
