The New York Times announced the closure of its sports desk and a shift of its daily sports coverage to The Athletic, a company it acquired last year. The move is aimed at expanding sports coverage and maximizing the resources of both newsrooms, according to a memo by Chairman A.G. Sulzberger and CEO Meredith Kopit Levien, who stated that there are no plans for layoffs.
