Exclusive: Veteran Producer Dr. Dre Goes After "DiamondDRE" Over Name, Trademark

On November 4, 2011, Andre Young (aka DR. DRE) and his attorney, Robert A. Becker threatened legal action to cancel Drew H. Reyes's service mark and entertainment moniker,

"DIAMONDDRE."

It was their argument that the name, "DiamondDRE," would cause confusion with DR. DRE, in reference to his identity and business practices within the music industry and entertainment in general. DR. DRE ordered DiamondDRE to cancel his mark or change the presentation of his mark. DiamondDRE refused.

On March 26, 2012, DR. DRE filed a petition with the U.S. Trademark and Patent Office to bring the case to trial. Attorney Theresa V. Johnson provided Drew H. Reyes guidance and legal representation in the beginning months of this case, but it was ultimately decided that new representation
would be needed. On June 6, 2012, Attorney Mark Edw. Andrews was appointed to represent "DIAMONDDRE."

It was because of Mr. Andrews's direction, expertise, and legal tenacity that Andre Young withdrew his legal petition against DiamondDRE
