Chapter 18: The Selection Process

I found myself in a dark room. Everything went pitch black and there was no sound. Suddenly I heard a generic voice booming loudly with a slight echo, “You poor soul. You have chosen to enlist in the temporal war of good versus evil. I will be your Adi, your witness and ornamental covering helping you through the terrible and great ordeal you about to undergo.”

Fear gripped me as I realized that this was not a dream, and I asked my Adi, “What ordeal am I about to undergo?” My Adi then responded, “I will now show you a selection of temporal lives you can choose from for your role on Earth. Once you select from one of the available lives, your soul will be bound to the corresponding mortal body until you die or are extracted by the Creator.” I had obviously been tricked because I did not want to die, so I said “What if there has been a mistake, and I do not want to participate in the temporal war of good and evil?” “The default life is to choose to be an aborted baby who dies before he or she is born. This choice has the least risk, but it also has the least potential eternal reward. I began to panic once I realized that the choice with the least risk was certain death, so the other options must be even worse. I asked my Adi, “What do you mean by risk? What kind of risk are you talking about?”

My Adi responded, “There is the risk that, if you choose a role with more potential eternal reward, you may fail by succumbing to sin and evil. If you surrender to temptation, and refuse to repent, it will have been better for you if you had never been born.” I then asked my Adi, “How am I to determine what life to choose?”

My Adi responded, “I will show you the temporal nodes of the lives you can select from. The temporal nodes for each life are snapshots of events that are predestined to occur in that life, but how you get there is your choice for good or for evil. Choose wisely because your eternal soul is set as collateral if you are conquered by evil. Do not get distracted by worldly cares because it will do you no good to gain the whole World and forfeit your soul.” I asked my Adi “How can I determine the potential eternal rewards for each life?”. My Adi responded, “I will show you the potential eternal reward for each life if you do not sin, but you will fracture the timeline to one with less eternal reward every time you sin.”

Suddenly the darkness was broken by what looked like a wheel of bright windows. I could peer into each window and see people and events in that person’s life. Just by thinking, I could rotate the wheel of windows so that I could easily see through each window corresponding to a particular life. I began to scan through the temporal nodes of all the lives. There was no life where extraction by the Creator was a temporal node. For most of the lives, death was a temporal node. The Victor winning the temporal war was a temporal node, which seemed ironic to me that the war was rigged in favor of the Victor winning the war for the side of good. I wanted to choose a life where death was not a temporal node, which meant I definitely did not want to choose the life of Lazarus; the poor guy had to die twice. I was able to narrow my choice down to the life of Enoch, the life of Elijah, or some lives at the end of what was called the “Age of Grace”, which was after the Victor had already won the temporal war. The lives with the greatest potential eternal rewards also seemed to be these lives in the “Age of Grace”. I found it ironic that these last lives were first, in that they had better potential eternal rewards. After much deliberation, I decided to choose a life that had an enormous potential eternal reward. I didn’t do it purposely to gamble, but rather I was just praying to be extracted by my Creator. Also, I realized that in most of the lives they forgot all about this selection process. However, it was a temporal node that I should be reminded about this selection process in the life I choose. I was praying that ensuring that I would be reminded of this selection process during my life would be a clever way to stack the deck in my favor.
