Wat Chaloem Phra Kiat Worawiharn was built in 1847 by order of King Rama III and was dedicated to his majesty the king’s grandparents and mother.

It is a second-rank royal Temple on the western bank of Chaophraya River.

Located in a very peaceful and shady area, the Temple has completely reflected King Rama III’s most favorite style that combines chinese art in constructing the monastery. Therefore, the main shrine hall or Ubosot is decorated with beautiful stucco using chinese porcelains on the gable and door as well as window frames outside while gorgeous mural paintings ornament perfectly inside the edifice.

The temple’s biggest Buddha image made from Bronze named ‘Phraphuttamahalokaphinanthapatima’ is enshrined in the Ubosot.

Other buildings such as Phra Wiharn Luang, Wiharn Sila Khao, Phra Chedi or pagoda in Ceylonese form, Kan Parian Luang which is a hall for sermons in a mixture of Thai and Chinese architecture are also beautifully constructed buildings at this monastery.

Wat Chaloem Prakiat Wora Wihar is the last temple built by His Majesty King Jessadabodindra (King Rama III) before he passed away. Therefore, it is considered
the last temble of his reign.

The temple was built in 1847 on a piece of land that was a residence of his maternal grandfather and grandmother and the Princess Mother Somdej Phra Sri Sudalal. As an honor to these three people King Rama III bestowed the name of this temple as "Wat Chalerm Prakiat." Construction of the temple also included a wall with four turrets on each corner to give it more of a majestic touch. The grounds used to be the site of an ancient fortress so the high walls reflect this.

Unfortunately, the reign of King Rama IlI ended before the temple construction was complete.
Therefore, His Majesty King Rama IV, after ascending to the throne. took this task as his own by entrusting Phava Tibbhakornwongse (Kham Bunnag) as a leader of the construction and restoration team. Construction process was finally finished in 1858.

Wat Chaloem Prakiat is situated along the Chao Phraya River and is famous for its beautiful architecture. The temple was built in a style of Thai Chinese architecture to suit the King's taste.

The highlight of the temple is the huge Chedi behind the temple buildings. The Chedi is a majestic white spherical pagoda shape with glass lotus base (Lanka style) standing at a height of 48 meters. The Buddha's relics are kept inside.

The temple is well worth a visit. The mix of Thai and Chinese styling from Rama III is always nice to see.
