Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal-PS2 480p Gameplay- The Endgame.
Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal (2004) was developed by Insomniac and published by Sony
Out of all possible ratings: Terrible, Bad, Average, Good, Great....
My rating, based upon my playthrough experience, is: Great!
I had a blast playing through this game, as it was fun and exciting from the moment you start until the time you beat it. Then, you get to play through new game plus mode and further upgrade your weapons and (usually) get new ones! Insomniac found brilliance with this series, but this title in particular they really got into their groove and didn't waste al ounce of material: The Quark episodes (Vid-comics they are called), the Annialation Nation challenges, the Ratchet assaults, main missions, even finding the ever-so-smelly sewer crystals was insanely fun. If your a fan of the series, this entry is a must play. If your not into the Ratchet and Clank series this would be a great first game to introduce you to it.
Per normal judging criteria, the graphics are very well done, it's amazing they got this looking so good on the PS2. There are some frame rate issues when there is a lot of action on screen, but it doesn't impact your gameplay. Seeing how much action they fit on screen is amazing!
The story is better than your typical Ratchet and Clank game, but being that it IS Ratchet and Clank you would know not to expect anything too serious. Humor is spread throughout the game and there are some jokes I know Insomniac would not be telling today as they have drifted towards the more woke side of things. Shame.
The sound is great. Voice acting is surprisingly good for a 2004 game. The sounds of cannons and explosions are enough to put a grin on your face and the various background noises catch your ear. The Courtney Gears song made me turn my sound down but that's only because I can't stand that type of music.
Then there is the biggest issue for me, as it pertains to old games: controls. Insomniac nailed it. Even though this title is 20 years old (almost) you can easily pick it up and play it and there are different control schemes for each type of player. I like the run and gun strafe layout, as it is most similar to the newest Ratchet and Clank games. The thumbsticks, being that it is the PS2, work better than most games.
Technically, I don't remember encountering any serious bugs. No freezes, nothing that would stop progression, so the game is very sound.
For all these reasons, Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal gets my highest possible rating: GREAT!
Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal is available on PlayStation.
