A US Navy Boatswain's Mate is one of the oldest jobs in the US Navy. Essentially the Navy equivalent of an Army Infantryman. Boatswain’s Mates are the heart of every ship - they perform maintenance such as painting, but also handle the lines, transfer cargo, steer the ship, stand watch and drive the small boats.
