BEFORE becoming the newest voice in hip-hop with a wavy flow, undeniable melodies, and bouncy anthems, rapper Luh Tyler was born Tyler Meeks on February 18th, 2006 in Tallahassee, Florida. Growing up the youngest of three siblings with two older sisters in what he refers to as a “good family”, Tyler was initially on course to become a professional athlete thanks to his ability to excel on the basketball court as a point guard. Mostly disinterested in school however, Tyler remembers vividly not wanting to go to class. To get out of doing so, he used to fake being sick on a regular basis so that he’d be re-directed to his grandma’s house, which is the exact spot he came to realize that he was never going to work a regular 9-5 job in his life. He described this moment of epiphany to XXL, telling them: “I be looking at my grandma, I’m like, ‘You don’t never have to go to work, grandma. You retired. I’m tryna be like you!’” In that moment, Tyler’s grandmother had absolutely no idea that the little kid she often played modern country music like Darius Rucker’s “Wagon Wheel” for was already deep in the process of forming his own musical skillset. And by the time Tyler was in Middle School, his love for Florida’s hip-hop scene had already begun to take shape.
