Creatine: The Natural Brain Booster for fighters
One of the main staple supplements I recommend all of my fighters. Apart from the wide range of muscle and performance benefits of creatine supplementation, emerging research has shown benefits on brain health.
Research suggests that creatine supplementation can improve cognitive performance in athletes, especially those who participate in sports that require short bursts of power.
In one study, sleep-deprived rugby players who took creatine for 7 days showed improved accuracy in a sport-specific passing task.
In another study, semi-professional male mountain bikers who took creatine for 28 days showed improved performance on a cognitive task that involved working memory and attention.
The potential benefits of creatine for cognitive performance in athletes are thought to be due to its role in brain energy metabolism. Creatine helps to recycle ATP, the body's main energy currency. This means that creatine can help to maintain brain function during periods of high cognitive demand, potentially during a fight.
However, more research is needed to confirm the benefits of creatine for cognitive performance in athletes. The studies that have been done so far have been small and short-term and the optimal dosage fully understood yet.
