SACRAMENTO, Calif. — In the early hours this morning, the Sacramento Police Department (SACPD) responded to a "bait bike activation," indicating that a planted and GPS-equipped bike was being tampered with. The incident occurred just before 4:30 a.m., prompting officers to saturate the area near Railyards.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered that the bike had not been set in motion. However, the situation quickly escalated as the suspect jumped onto the bike and fled the scene. A pursuit ensued, with officers closely tailing the suspect through the area.

In a turn of events, the suspect abruptly abandoned the bike and continued on foot, evading officers momentarily. SACPD officers promptly established a perimeter in the area, employing strategic tactics to enclose the suspect within a limited space.

After a search of the area, law enforcement authorities successfully apprehended the suspect in the vicinity of 7th and G Streets.

Residents are reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the Sacramento Police Department. Cooperation from the community is instrumental in maintaining public safety and curbing criminal behavior. PSN is aware of at least two additional similar apprehensions within the past couple of weeks, in the same general area.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
