The fossa is one of the most formidable carnivores in the country of Madagascar. It is active during the day and the night in the forests in which it resides, both in the trees and on the ground. The animal is very good at climbing trees and hunting. It is also a skilled hunter. It effortlessly moves up and down the trees as well as along the branches. It is also capable of moving quickly across the land.

There was a time when people believed that the fossa was some kind of cat. Despite possessing a body with various traits that are similar to cats and a muzzle that is similar to dogs, researchers have finally concluded that it is connected to mongooses. Madagascar is the only place in the wild where fossa can be found. The population of the animal is considered to be in a fragile state by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), which attributes this status to the animal's habitat being destroyed or severely fragmented. If nothing is done to reduce the number of causes that are hurting the population size of these animals, they will most likely become extinct.
