I could have been beautiful,
but I never had a face

I could have been athletic,
but my body never grew

I could have been intelligent,
but I never read a book

I could have been musical,
but my hands never held an instrument

I could have been artistic,
but I don’t know what colours are

I could have been a scientist,
but I never went to school

I could have been in a family,
but I will always be alone

I could have had a daddy,
but I never felt a father’s protection

I could have had a mommy,
but I have never felt a mother’s love

Of all the things that I could have been,
all I wanted was to be born
