2 Kings 9-11 | Jehu's Zeal for God

In 2 Kings 9, a prophet named Elisha sends a young prophet to anoint Jehu as the king of Israel. Jehu embarks on a mission to fulfill God's judgment against the wicked royal house of Ahab. He meets Jehoram, the king of Judah, and Jezebel, the queen mother. Jehu executes Jehoram and then confronts Jezebel, who meets a gruesome end as predicted by Elijah. Jehu eradicates all traces of Ahab's family, purging the land of idolatry and fulfilling God's righteous judgment.

In 2 Kings 10, Jehu continues his zealous campaign against the worshipers of Baal. He gathers all the prophets, priests, and followers of Baal and cunningly eliminates them, ensuring that none are left in Israel. Jehu shows his commitment to God's commands by eliminating those who had promoted idolatry. However, despite his actions, Jehu does not turn his heart fully to the Lord, and he continues to tolerate the worship of the golden calves in Bethel and Dan.

In 2 Kings 11, Athaliah, the wicked queen of Judah, hears of her son's death and seizes the opportunity to assume power. However, Jehosheba, the sister of the deceased king, rescues Joash, the rightful heir to the throne, and hides him in the temple for six years. When Joash turns seven, Jehoiada the priest reveals Joash to the commanders of the army and the people, crowning him as the king. Athaliah is executed, and a covenant is made to restore the worship of God in Judah.

In these chapters, we witness the rise of Jehu as the instrument of God's judgment, the eradication of Baal worship, and the restoration of the rightful king in Judah. These events highlight the consequences of idolatry, the faithfulness of God's prophets, and the importance of upholding God's commands.
