Officials in Mason County, in western Washington, reduced evacuation orders for residents on Wednesday, July 5, as they worked to contain the McEwan Fire. The fire was 250 acres and 10 percent contained as of Thursday night, according to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office and official data. Footage from the sheriff’s office shows an aerial view of the affected region, about five miles northeast of Shelton. The fire began around 2 pm on Independence Day, officials said, prompting many residents to leave their homes.
