Suburban Permaculture consultation followup - 3 years later - "Tom"'s Place
Today we re-visit a suburban consultation, Tom's place. Everyone LOVED his 1 year followup (almost exactly 2 years ago), which you can find here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzxyWem3WYs. "Tom" shot this one himself, and he's quite a character - everyone fell in love with him.
2 years later, we head back to his place to see how it's growing. And IT'S GROWING!
"Tom" wanted to grow as much food as we could fit into his 15' x 48' suburban backyard. We crammed 16+ trees, tons of bushes, and plenty of pollinator and predator attracting plants.
A dense planting like this is ideal to get a healthy food system established. However, it will get simplified as the trees get larger, canopies close, and paradise grows. For now, our goal is to shade the soil, crowd out wannabe weeds, and bring in the insects, all while returning some serious investment in terms of healthy food.
What was previously just a blank patch of grass, doing nothing, is now feeding his 2 young kids, and teaching them where their food grows. If only we could all have a childhood like this.
I hope you enjoy,
Keith.
