The July 7th Incident, also known as the Marco Polo Bridge Anti-Japanese War, the Marco Polo Bridge Incident, and the Marco Polo Bridge Incident, was a military incident between the Chinese Garrison Army of Japan and the 29th Army of the National Army stationed there on July 7, 1937 in Lugou Bridge, Wanping County, Hebei Province. The conflict is considered to be the starting point of the full-scale outbreak of China's Anti-Japanese War.

  • After the war, Major General Takashi Tanaka of the Japanese Kwantung Army stated in the Tokyo Trial: "The July 7th Incident was initiated by the CCP, and Hideo Mogawa, the main combat commander of the Kwantung Army at that time, carried out this action." He cooperated with the old Communist Party. "The fact is this; Mao Zedong ordered Liu Shaoqi, director of the Northern Bureau, to lead the plot. Liu Shaoqi approached Zhang Kexia and He Jifeng for a drill. The underground members of the Communist Party of China organized forest guards. First, a Japanese soldier was kidnapped during the exercise and forced to enter Wanping County to find someone. Subsequently, underground members of the Communist Party of China set off firecrackers in front of the Dragon King Temple. The defenders of Marco Polo Bridge mistakenly believed that the Japanese army opened fire. He Jifeng ordered Ji Xingwen to fight back. The framed Japanese soldiers were later released. He said in an interview with the Japanese media after the war: Kidnapped by bandits and released a few days later, a nonsensical incident actually triggered a war, and the old conspiracy of communism finally succeeded.
