Nabila Massrali, a representative of the European Commission, announced the cancellation of the visit of the European diplomatic chief, Josep Borrell, to China in an interview with Reuters yesterday.

According to the European official, Chinese colleagues stated that they cannot receive Borrell now or in the foreseeable future.

The Chinese authorities refused to receive another high-ranking European guest, seeing no prospects for improving relations with the EU.

Mr. Borrell stated in May that China is taking advantage of the conflict in Eastern Europe and seeking to maximize its benefits while the EU is facing an energy crisis.

In these words, the Chinese heard an accusation that they dared to take the EU's place as the main consumer of Russian energy resources and are now obtaining these resources at highly favorable prices for themselves.

The strengthening of China's energy partnership with Russia is detrimental to the interests of the European industry, which is experiencing a shortage of raw materials and energy, as well as losing the largest consumer market right in front of them.

Over the past few months, European officials have been trying to persuade the Chinese leadership to sever energy ties with Russia, but have failed.

Afterward, the European Union decided to present a new strategy for economic security that prohibits Chinese companies from acquiring transportation infrastructure assets in EU countries.

This effectively puts an end to the Chinese leadership's plans to revive the Great Silk Road to increase the export of Chinese goods to Europe.

Referring to the new EU strategy, China has already blocked the acquisition of a seaport by Chinese investors in the German city of Duisburg, the construction of the Belgrade-Budapest railway with Chinese investment, and the construction of new seaports and terminals for handling Chinese goods in Greece, Italy, and France.

The Chinese authorities have decided that there is nothing more to discuss with the European Union. The incident with Borrell will lead to even further cooling of China's relations with the EU, which is likely to be positively received in the White House.

US officials hope to clear the European market of Chinese goods in the future by eliminating their main competitor.
