I have been banking with Scotiabank for the past 22 years with no issues - no missed bill payments, no fraudulent activity, no warnings, no outstanding balances aside from a small LOC that I make payments on monthly, and I have had an excellent credit rating since I was 11 years old. I started working and investing with the help of my father when I was 13, (and learned a lot from the 2008 market crash).

I received a registered letter dated June 26th stating that I will be de-banked come August 3rd. No reason was given and there was no signature at the bottom of the letter. My branch did confirm in person that their system notes line up with the contents of the letter and this is my recorded call, (my apologies for the terrible transcription from the Cube call recorder app). Feel free to share any q’s in regards to the transcription.

I have been asked why I continued to bank with Scotiabank following my partner Jeremy’s be-banking. I honestly hadn’t had the time to look for another LOC lender and it is a joint account with my ex who I also have a mortgage with, (thankfully not with Scotiabank since they refused to port my mortgage). I also enjoyed taking advantage of Visa Momentum’s cash back program - 4% on gas and groceries and 2% on all other purchases. They waived my annual fees for years when I would threaten to cancel the card.
