ufaFabrik in Tempelhof History
On June 9, 1979, the site was peacefully occupied by a group of German youth. The property belonged to the Deutsche Bundespost, which was in negotiations to sell the site to the Berlin Senate. The squatters opened the site with a banner with a "Welcome" written above the entrance.
On June 29, 1979, there were intensive negotiations with the Berlin Senate. The squatters received the right to stay in Berlin Senate and at the time about 40 squatters have been living permanently there on the site.
In 1979, the first combined heat and power plant for energy generation was operated on the site. It was a so-called "Mao diesel", a converted truck engine with 30 kW of electrical and 60 kW of thermal power.
In the fall of 1980, the Squatters had a violent clash with the police! Peter Ulrich, a member of the SPD Senator for the Interior made an agreement named "The line of reason." An initial lease was negotiated, initially limited to three years; rents or leases are paid regularly. CDU Senate under Richard von Weizsäcker, made it possible for “the open cultural policy."
In 1981, reopening of the Screening Room.
In 1982, the construction of the two-masted circus tent was completed. Also, the first ufaFabrik circus tour.
In 1986, ufaFabrik joined the European Cultural Network Trans Europe Halles.
In 1987, the Neighborhood and Self-help Center joined the Community Club. Also, ufaFabrik had the first Berlin Children's Circus Festival.
In 1989, the ufaFabrik constructed a MIR Caravan of ten tent theaters for the West Berlin Festival. They had over 180 performing artists.
In 1992, the Trans Europe Festival with Samul Nori and La Fura dels Baus.
In 1996, the guest performance by the Circus Ethiopia project with street children from Addis Ababa. One of Berlin’s largest solar power installations is located on the roofs of ufaFabrik, and powers up to 50kW in the city’s grid.
In1998, the first Berlin Netd@ys, ‘Open Doors’, culture, youth, and New Media.
In 2000, the first Ecology, Culture, and Community Festival at ufaFabrik grounds.
In 2001, the first inland port Festival for Urban Culture and Ecology. The name of the Festival was “Cast Off!”
In 2005, the Res Artis conference. The conference was named “The Sharing Cultures and Social Change”
In 2012, a week-long Creative Strategies of Sustainability seminar on the ufaFabrik grounds.
In 2013, ufaFabrik Club had the reconstruction of the theater hall and the Open-air stage completed.
In 2014, the first ufaFabrik Boulevard Street Art Festival.
In 2015, the Conference of the International Federation of Settlements and Neighborhood Center.
In 2017, the Flying Circus Academy was on the ufaFabrik grounds.
In 2018, the ufaFabrik had an education project for school groups. The subject was on the trash and News Media.
In 2019, 40 years celebration of the ufaFabrik.
The ufaFabrik is an Arts and Culture neighborhood Ecology Community. The ufaFabrik wants to make the world a better place to live in! The ufaFabrik wants to help on educating the world on saving the planet that we live on! The ufaFabrik has Art, Sports, and entertainment for the whole world to see! The best of all is ufaFabrik is for everyone!
