Meet Marsa

For the past year Marsa Mendro has been assisting us at Soul Gazing Photography. You know you have got a great talent when you teach them something and the very next day they show up, their self correcting what you taught them and breaking the feedback loop of old behaviuors.

The kind of work we have covered together over the year has included:
* Tourism Aerial Content Swan River Seaplane
* Warehouses of Major Mining Companies
* Leadership Coaches & Seminar Events
* Radio & Media Appearances
* Publishing Bestselling Transformative Memoir
* Creating Decide Your Destiny Audiobook

It’s been a blast and I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing your career expand and your personal growth develop. Here are 8 tips I have found most useful when balancing major project, worthwhile educational experiences and exceeding client expectations all at the same time:

1. Set clear expectations: Clearly communicate your expectations and goals to the work experience student from the beginning. This will help them understand what is expected of them and what they need to achieve during their time with you.

2. Assign meaningful tasks: Give the student tasks that are challenging yet achievable. Tasks that are mission and purpose aligned and explained. This will help them learn new skills and gain valuable experience. Avoid assigning them menial or ‘low-skill’ repetitive tasks that offer little learning value.

3. Provide guidance and mentorship: Take the time to guide and mentor the work experience student. Offer feedback, answer their questions, and provide constructive criticism to help them improve. Be patient and supportive throughout the learning process.

4. Encourage curiosity and initiative: Encourage the student to be proactive and take initiative by creating a culture where they feel comfortable asking questions and seeking additional learning opportunities. Encourage them to explore different parts of the roles you employ.

5. Offer opportunities for skill development: Identify the student's strengths and interests and provide opportunities for them to develop those skills. This could involve assigning projects or tasks that align with their developing abilities, interests and aspirations.

6. Build a culture rich of teamwork and collaboration: Encourage the student to work with different team members and participate in collaborative projects. This will help them develop interpersonal skills and understand the importance of teamwork in the workplace and out in the world.

7. Encourage reflection and feedback: Set aside focussed time for the student to reflect on their experiences and provide feedback on their work placement. This will help them evaluate their own progress and provide valuable insights for you to improve future processes of career ascension and work experience programs.

8. Celebrate achievements and milestones together: Acknowledge and celebrate the work experience student's achievements during their time with you. Whether it's through praise, recognition, or a small token of appreciation, make sure they feel valued and motivated to continue their professional development in the marketplace.

Remember, working with a work experience student is an opportunity to shape the future workforce. You have a higher purpose and impact than off-setting workload. By following these tips, you can create a positive and impactful experience that contributes to their growth and development. That is what, surprisingly, has become the most rewarding part of this experience.
