California's Proposition 12, an anti-animal cruelty law for breeding pigs, came into effect over the weekend. The law prohibits the sale of pork from breeding pigs housed in restrictive conditions and non-compliant sales can now result in fines or prison sentences. The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the law in May, dismissing a constitutional challenge brought by the National Pork Producers Council.
