What's easier, moving megalithic stones or cutting megalithic stones?

It's a mystery how ancient people carved and moved megalithic to build some of the ancient world's most magnificent structures and buildings. But it's also a mystery as to why they wanted to use such large stone blocks in the first place? Why not use smaller, more manageable stone blocks instead?
