AU: Cashless Banks... Customer Goes Into The Bank To Withdraw Cash, Teller 'We Don't Hold Cash'

A Brisbane woman has decided to close her account with ANZ bank after a teller told her she couldn't withdraw her own money.
Taryn Compton is renovating her home and went to her local branch to take out $3500.
But she didn't have her bank card with her, so she had to go into the branch to make the withdrawal.

That is when, Taryn claimed the teller said they are a cashless branch and the only way she could take money out was by withdrawing it from the ATM outside.
"She told me they don't have cash at the bank to give people anymore," Taryn told Today.
Taryn said the teller offered to help her set up the cashless app on her phone so she could still take money out from the ATM without her card, but even then - it didn't work, so she was unable to get any money from the bank or ATM outside.
Taryn said the whole ordeal had her questioning Australia's overall banking system if you can't even access your own money.
"The teller told me that if I wanted to get my cash out, if I needed it that day, to transfer it to another bank and try somewhere else so that's what I did," she said.
"If you can't get your own money from a branch, what's the point of a bank?"

Today reached out to ANZ for comment and a spokesperson gave the following statement:
"At ANZ we have seen in-branch transactions fall 50 per cent over the past five years, with just one per cent of transactions now done over the counter and 96 per cent conducted digitally," a spokesperson said.
"Some ANZ branches no longer handle cash at the counter, but continue to have cash available through our onsite Smart ATMs.
"At these branches, cash and cheque deposits and cash withdrawals can continue to be made by using our Smart ATM and coin deposit machines, and we have staff on hand to help customers using them for the first time.
"These branches are all located in metropolitan areas and are within 10km of the next nearest branch with over-the-counter services. Customers can find out more about their closest branch at anz.com.au/locations."
