Hunter Biden prosecutor denies retaliating against IRS whistleblower

David Weiss, the U.S. attorney leading the investigation into Hunter Biden’s tax filings, has denied allegations of retaliation against an IRS whistleblower who claimed that Weiss was prevented from filing charges outside his home district.

The whistleblower, Gary Shapley, testified before the House Ways and Means Committee in May, asserting that Attorney General Merrick Garland had misrepresented the truth regarding Weiss’s authority to file charges beyond Delaware, including in California and Washington, D.C.

In a letter addressed to Rep. Jim Jordan, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Weiss refuted any claims of retaliation by the Justice Department against the IRS official for disclosing information to Congress.

He stated that if the investigation led in that direction, he believes he has the ability to file charges outside his home district, NBC News reported.
