➡️ What is a Sphygmomanometer?
A sphygmomanometer is a device that is used to measure the blood pressure of an artery. It uses a cuff that wraps around the arm and a bulb to pump air into the cuff in order to constrict blood flow. As the air is released, the pressure reading is displayed on a manometer and can be heard using a stethoscope.

➡️ Sphygmomanometers are Also Referred to as:
1. Blood pressure monitor
2. Blood pressure gauge
2. Blood pressure meter

A Blood Pressure Reading Has Two Numbers:
1. Systolic
2. Diastolic

The Systolic reading tells you how much pressure the blood is exerting against the artery walls as the heartbeats. The Diastolic reading tells you how much pressure the blood is exerting against the artery walls as the heart is resting between beats.

For example, a blood pressure reading may be 120/80 mmHg.
-- 120 is the Systolic blood pressure.
-- 80 is the Diastolic blood pressure.

And in fact, a blood pressure of 120/80 is the normal reading for adults. However, readings do vary depending on age and many other factors.
