➡️ What is Croup?
Croup is an acute upper airway infection that results in subglottic swelling and an obstruction below the vocal cords. It most commonly occurs in infants and children and results in inspiratory stridor. This means that it's common for the child to have a "barking" cough. Another name for Croup that you may have heard is Laryngotracheobronchitis. One important thing to remember about Croup is that there is subglottic swelling. This means that the obstruction occurs below the vocal cords. This is the primary way to differentiate this condition from Epiglottitis because instead, it has supraglottic swelling which means that it occurs above the vocal cords. So while Croup and Epiglottitis may appear to be similar, as a Respiratory Therapist or medical professional, it's important to be able to know the difference between the two.

➡️ Croup Signs and Symptoms:
▪ Stridor

If you or a patient has been diagnosed with a condition or are experiencing symptoms, as always, please speak with your doctor for medical advice and treatment.
