➡️ What is the Importance of Monitoring Patients on the Ventilator?
After mechanical ventilation has been initiated, there are certain things that should be monitored in order to keep an eye on the patient’s condition. One important thing to monitor is their: Vital signs. They should be monitored closely because, if changes occur, it most likely means that the patient’s condition has changed as well.
➡️ Vital Signs to Monitor:
- Heart rate
- Respiratory rate
- Oxygen saturation
- Blood pressure
- Temperature
➡️ Other Parameters to Monitor During Mechanical Ventilation:
- Breath sounds
- Chest imaging
- Chest movement
- Fluid balance
- Blood gas results
- Capnography
- Cerebral perfusion pressure
Keep in mind that other parameters may be required for monitoring in some patients depending on their condition. Remember, each patient is different. These are just a few of the most common examples.
