A Respiratory Care Plan is a written description that guides the type and amount of care that a patient will receive.

➡️ A typical Respiratory Care Plan will include the following:
▪ Goals of therapy
▪ Medications
▪ Devices needed for therapy
▪ Methods and procedures
▪ Oxygen concentration
▪ Frequency of therapy
▪ Duration of therapy

Keep in mind that, of course, each patient is different. This means that each plan of care will be different as well. And note that a Respiratory Care Plan may include other things that weren't mentioned. These are just some of the most common examples.

➡️ How Do Respiratory Care Plans Work?
A Respiratory Care Plan works similar to respiratory therapy protocols. They use a multidisciplinary plan to provide the most appropriate types of care to fit an individual patient's needs. Respiratory Care Plans can be used in acute care, sub-acute care, and rehabilitation facilities. In order for the plan to be successful, they rely on communication from all of the medical professionals who are involved, including nurses, physicians, and Respiratory Therapists.
