➡️ What is an Acute Lung Injury?
It's a condition characterized by fluid in the alveoli caused by an acute event such as sepsis, pneumonia, aspiration, or trauma. An Acute Lung Injury (ALI) is very similar and shares many of the same characteristics of ARDS except it is much less severe. In fact, it has been said that an Acute Lung Injury and ARDS are not even considered to be distinct conditions. That is because, essentially, the terms represent the same condition with different levels of severity.

➡️ Acute Lung Injury Diagnosis:
1. An acute onset of severe hypoxemia
2. Bilateral diffuse infiltrates on a chest x-ray
3. Absence of left atrial hypertension

➡️ Causes of an Acute Lung Injury:
▪ Pneumonia
▪ Aspiration
▪ Trauma
▪ Sepsis
▪ Shock
▪ Drug overdose
▪ Fluid overload
▪ Toxic inhalation
▪ Near drowning
▪ Burn injury
