➡️ What is Tea Tree Oil?
The Tea Tree originated in Australia and is known for its ability to combat viruses, fungi, and bacteria. The leaves of a Tea Tree have high concentrations of oil that can be extracted and formulated into the essential oil supplement that is widely used today. It was discovered to contain antimicrobial, antiseptic, antibacterial, and antiviral properties which is why it's beneficial for the lungs and respiratory system.

➡️ How Does Tea Tree Oil Work?
Tea Tree Oil contains many components that help fight infections, but one of the primary constituents that we need to mention is: Cineole. It's an active ingredient that works as an expectorant, which means that it can ease a cough and aid in the removal of secretions. Its antioxidant effects can provide a boost to your immune system as well. Multiple studies found that its antimicrobial properties help combat some of the types of bacteria that can cause a respiratory infection. Not to mention, cineole has been shown to be beneficial in treating sinus infections and reducing inflammation as well.

➡️ Does Tea Tree Oil Work?
Limited research has been performed in this area, but it is believed that the components of Tea Tree Oil react with the mucous membranes of the lungs and helps loosen up secretions so that they can be coughed up more easily. Keep in mind, though, that it's not a bronchodilator and should not be used as a replacement for Albuterol or other prescription medications. As always, please check with your doctor before using or consuming tea tree or any other essential oil, especially if you have a respiratory condition such as asthma or COPD.
