Every patient should have an active role in determining the medical care that they receive. Unfortunately, sometimes this is not possible due to an event such as an accident or sudden illness. This is when an Advance Directive comes into play.

➡️ What is an Advance Directive?
It's a legal document that allows a patient to specify what medical care he or she does or does not want to receive if they were no longer able to make decisions on their own.

➡️ Types of Advance Directives:
1. Living Will
2. Durable Power of Attorney

➡️ Living Will
A Living Will is a legal document that states a patient's medical care preferences in writing. This includes which life-saving measures they wish to receive, such as CPR and/or intubation and mechanical ventilation. It also may include end-of-life pain management and comfort measures as well.

➡️ Durable Power of Attorney
A Durable Power of Attorney, on the other hand, allows the patient to designate another person as an agent to carry out their wishes and make decisions on their behalf.
