Exercise and physical activity are good for your lungs because it forces them to take in larger breaths at a faster rate than normal. Increased breaths = Increased air. This means that more oxygen can be distributed throughout the body. Not to mention, this phenomenon will drastically improve the strength of your respiratory muscles over time.

➡️ Did you know that breathing exercises can be very effective as well?
Of course, breathing is a natural process of life. It’s how all the cells of the body get enough oxygen which is required for all of the major organs to function properly. Simply put, the more oxygen the body is able to take in, the better. This is especially important when you're sick because your cells needs oxygen to function properly and help fight the infection. Deep breathing exercises are a great way to help your lungs take in a larger tidal volume so that they can expand which helps prevent more serious conditions such as atelectasis and pneumonia.

➡️ Diaphragmatic Breathing
It's an effective technique that can be used to strengthen the diaphragm and increase the oxygen-carrying capacity of the lungs. You may have heard it referred to as “belly breathing.” This technique is performed by taking a deep breath in, almost as if you were attempting to breathe all the way into your stomach. As the inhalation occurs, you will feel the diaphragm contract. Then you can exhale slowly through pursed lips. This creates back-pressure in the alveoli which is great for improved lung compliance and expansion. This is only one example. A quick search can reveal other types of breathing exercises to fit your needs.
