In the late 1800s, Chief Long Wolf was attending a special event for Queen Victoria in London, England with Buffalo Bill's Wild West show. Chief Long Wolf fell ill with pneumonia during the trip and passed away in London.

Later in that same trip, a young Lakota girl named White Star tragically died after falling off of a horse.

The decision was made to bury her on top of Chief Long Wolf so that he would symbolically embrace this young child.

During the 1990s, an English woman came across some information regarding the story and reached out to the Lakota Times to see if they could help connect her with Long Wolf's family.

Eventually, both bodies were exhumed and brought back to the Pine Ridge Reservation.

This is the story told by his great-granddaughter, Mary Condon.
