I needed a simple and easy to use monitor that could sit in the living room and keep me updated on the state of the air in the room. This compact sized £73 device from Temtop seemed to fit the bill. There are three different versions of this meter, this one (the M10), the wifi and app supported M10i, and the less well specified but slightly cheaper P10.

In the box was the air monitor itself, a USB cable, a reset tool and a well written and easy to read user guide. Although made entirely from plastic, the monitor feels well made, robust and has a quality feel to it.

The monitor has a clear and easy to read LCD screen, press the button on the top to scroll through PM2.5, HCHO, TVOC, and AQI, real-time readings.

What does it measure?
PM2.5
Particulate Matter 2.5 refers to particulates or airborne dust with a diameter of around 2.5 micrometres or less in size.
Sensor: Laser PM
Range: 0-999µg/m³
Resolution: 1µg/m³
Accuracy: ∓10µg/m³ (0-100µg/m³ )
∓10%µg/m³ (100-500µg/m³)
HCHO
This shows the current level of Formaldehyde (CH20 or H-CHO), a colourless chemical and group 1 carcinogen which even low dosages over the long term can cause significant danger.
Sensor: Electyrochemical
Range: 0-2mg/m³
Resolution: 0.01mg/m³
Accuracy: ∓0.04mg/m³ (0-0.4mg/m³)
∓10%(≥0.4mg/m³)
TVOC
Total Volatile Organic Compounds
A group of commonly found airborne chemicals which can prove dangerous with long term exposure.
Sensor: Electrochemical
Range: 0-5mg/m³
Resolution: 0.01mg/m³

AQI
Air Quality Index is a quick way of assessing general air quality on a scale from 1 to 500 with a lower rating being best. It follows the US EPA standard.

On top of the display is a single LED which changes colour from green to yellow to red according to the current air quality reading. In general, you don't need to start worrying too much until the LED turns red. It is a pity there is no audio alert when this happens.

The monitor is designed for home use and is USB powered but with a built-in 2200mAh Lithium Polymer rechargeable battery. The front panel LED shows the current battery status when charging, although there is also an on-screen graphic showing the battery level when in use. It will work for around six hours from a two hour charge, enough for you to move it to another room to test the level there bearing in mind that the meter needs to sit for a while to accustom itself to the new environment. There is a reset pinhole on the rear which can be used to reset the meter and recalibrate the HCHO sensor when repositioning but I have not needed to use it yet.

This is a nice little meter that works straight from the box, sits there and gets the job done with no complicated calibration or other messing about needed. It is not bad for the price although with hindsight I wish I had paid £25 more to get the wifi version.
